For over half a century, amateur and experienced captains from all over the world have been gracing Bahamian waters each year for the National Family Island Regatta.
Some come to compete in the sailing regattas, whilst others visit the idyllic shores to be a part of the numerous festivities that accompany the many competitions. Events are held annually on a number of islands and offer activities for all ages to enjoy. Originating in the 1950’s with the main goal of preserving the boat-building skills of Bahamian sailors, the tradition has continued, and today it is one of the oldest regattas in the islands of The Bahamas. Bahamian sailors from every major island in The Bahamas compete for the honour of being named the very best of the best. On-shore activities include fashion shows, beauty pageants, games, art exhibit, live music, dancing, and lots of scrumptious Bahamian food.
Held every year in the last full week of April.
