Far from being just a destination for sun and sea, The Bahamas has a wealth of things to do, from Museums and Art exhibitions, to more diverse cultural experiences.
If you’re looking to immerse yourself in local culture, then why not try out a People-to-people programme. Provided by The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and operating throughout the year on a complimentary basis, the People-to-People programme is intended to give visitors a genuine and informal view of Bahamian hospitality and culture, as you might experience when visiting a friend.
You will join a local Bahamian ambassador with interests similar to your own, for conversation, an authentic Bahamian meal, at civic or social clubs, etc. - their way of life often combines history, arts, museums and the delicious food of the islands.
One of the highlights of the program is a tea party at Government House in Nassau, hosted by the Governor General’s wife. Enjoy local bush teas, live music, view a fashion show by local designers and sample locally made sandwiches and pastries. Available from 4–5 p.m. on the last Friday of each month, January through November. Transportation is provided from a number of hotels. Admission is free.
