This unspoilt region close to the Malaysian border encompasses 51 islands, most of which are uninhabited. Many of the islands have an interior of tangled rainforest, while their perimeters are fringed with dazzling white beaches and healthy coral reefs.
The islands are home to a diverse array of exotic wildlife. Crab-eating macaques, langurs, mouse deer, sea otters, fishing cats and tree pythons thrive on land, while over a hundred bird species can be spotted, including frigate birds, sea eagles, hornbills, reef egrets and kingfishers. In the water, you can see dugongs, sperm whales, dolphins, turtles and abundant tropical fish.
